If you are struck in a scenario, in which you have purchased your domain from godaddy.com, but you are hosting your website on bluehost.com and you need to create a subdomain for your website…
Let us help you in that situation.
So first things first..
Do you need to pay extra for the subdomain?
So here we go
- Log in to your bluehost account.
- Go to cpanel.
- Find Subdomains option in domains section of cpanel
- Scroll down to “Subdomains” section, and insert the name of sub-domain that you want.
Suppose if your main domain is “mainsite.com”, and you want to create a subdomain, which might be: “support.mainsite.com”, then type “support” in the subdomain field.
Second field is to specify the folder path on your host directory. You can give it anyname. This name won’t be public. For simplicity, you can name it the same as your subdomain. All your website’s public data will go in that folder
- Click on “Create”, and there you go.
- Now login to your ftp server, you will see a new folder with the path you specified in step 4.
Is that all? I just searched support.mainsite.com on my browser, but it says that the page was not found.
Yup, you are right. You need to wait for a few minutes, preferrably a full day, and let the bluehost servers do their job
So drink you coffee and come back after an hour. Hopefully you will be set.
What about godaddy.com? Don’t I need to update some setting over there.
No need. Your nameservers are already managed by the bluehost account, if your main site is hosted there. So no panicking. Just relax.
